Dear Peck Community,
The holidays are fast approaching, and while they can be a wonderful time of the year for many, they can also be overwhelming for those who can’t quite make ends meet. One way Peck Community Schools assists with food needs is through our Weekend Food Program. We currently serve 25 families in need by sending home a bag of nutritious food each week. The National Honor Society took over the program several years ago, and students in this organization plan, shop, transport, bag, and deliver the food weekly. They make sure that each bag contains a fruit, vegetable, carbohydrate, and protein, along with two other additional items.
In order for this amazing service to keep operating, we are in need of funding. It costs about $170 per week, and while local grants from the Sanilac County Community Foundation have been instrumental in keeping the program running in the past, they are no longer enough. For this reason, we are asking for monetary donations from the community. Any amount that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made in person at the high school or elementary office.
While some would prefer to give food donations, at this time, monetary donations are all we are requesting. That way, nutritious meals are ensured and the same type and quantity of food is distributed to each family.
Thank you so very much for all you do for our community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Shephard, the NHS advisor, at 810-378-5200, ext. 3204 or shephardr@peckschools.net.
Sincerely,
Peck NHS
